'Well Overgrown' 2023

Marbles Kids Museum gave me the opportunity to create my own community based live drawing project. I cut out hundreds of poinsettia's and let each visitor design and be apart of the murals creation process. It was inspiring to so many kids and individuals who haven't had to opportunity to expose themselves to the arts in different ways.

As I drew, I would deliver facts surrounding historical context surrounding why I chose poinsettia's as the collage piece. I would suggest drawing techniques along with scientific facts about the poinsettia's anatomy. In historical context, this was about letting over used narratives that are historically disingenuous in an effort to protect power structure. Such efforts are why members of the diaspora face social adversity for the way their hair grows.

I used Poinsettia's to allude to Latin American cultural histories related to textiles and fabric dying processes.
